This ethics survey assignment challenged me to think critically about what it means to know the right thing to do vs. doing the right thing. As I began to review the class results, it was evident throughout that many of us could identify unethical behavior, including myself, but we still admitted to engaging in some form of unethical behavior, like a fake ID. This stuck with me because it was such a clear reminder that especially as a leader, you are the example and you must model ethical behavior even when it may not be convenient or the "popular option." Integrity felt more about the actions, not simply knowing what was "correct" or the "right" answer when it relates to ethics. Integrity was standing up and making a hard decision when there is not a right answer. This also caused me to reflect on my own personal values, and it reminded me that as a leader, I might be the only example of ethical behavior someone encounters so my actions may impact them. I want to focus more on acting with my values in mind in the future and model that behavior for those I am working with.
