The Story Circles conversation allowed me to engage with classmates of many different races, ethnicities, and social positions. I was able to listen to many different stories about who taught us about race in a very personal way. I can say that I heard experiences that were worlds apart from mine and some that were surprisingly alike. I came away realizing the impact of creating space for all voices and experiences in a group space. I was nervous to talk at first and didn't say much to start, but once we got talking, I realized that I could learn so much by being quiet and absorbing everyone's stories. The experience helped me become even more comfortable with multicultural perspectives and reminded me that being a leader isn't about being the loudest person in the room, but creating space for people to feel safe and heard. I will carry this experience forward as in my future work I will be in diverse teams, and I will be mindful to allow my leadership style to be one that supports and respects all that people's backgrounds and lived experiences.
